Best Visitor Attraction of the Year
This award will recognise visitor attractions that go that extra mile to ensure their visitors have a really enjoyable experience. The category covers a wide range of attractions including those that offer pre-booked tickets, house museums, garden shops, interpretation centres, theme parks, historic houses and castles. Venues that are open only on specific days for special events are not eligible for entry. Attractions must be signed up to the Code of Practice for visitor attractions or be part of the VAQAS or DATA standard.
Hotel of the Year
For Hotels, Town House Hotels, Country House Hotels and Metro Hotels
Judges are looking for evidence that the business have a commitment to excellence an excellent record of delivering high standards of customer care along with a progressive programmer of training and development to its staff. This category will also look for commitment to accommodation and food quality and improvement along with evidence of creative and effective marketing.
Small Hotel Boutique & Guest Accommodation of the Year
Small Hotel, Guest Houses, Inns, Hotels offering partial service and Restaurants with Rooms offering an outstanding, memorable stay and service. Dinner, afternoon tea or room service may be offered on occasions, but probably not full service. Judges are looking for evidence that the business has a commitment to excellence, an excellent record of delivering high standards of customer care along with a progressive programme of training and development for staff. This category will also look for commitment to accommodation and food quality along with evidence of creative and effective marketing

Best Self-Catering and Serviced Accommodation of the year
This award is open to self-catering accommodation including apartments that have boosted business by making the most of their distinctive appeal and that offer an excellent standard of accommodation. The judges are looking for evidence that nominated businesses have an excellent record of delivering high standards of customer care, evidence of training and staff development.
Best Holiday Park or Village of the year
This award is open to caravan holiday parks, holiday and touring parks, camping, touring parks and holiday villages that have boosted business by making the most of their distinctive appeal and that offer an excellent standard of accommodation. The judges are looking for evidence that nominated businesses have an excellent record of delivering high standards of customer care, evidence of training and staff development.
PUB of the year
This award is open to dining pubs that serve excellent food using local produce with regional dishes as part of their business.
Entrants must appeal to tourism visitors and must be committed to sourcing produce from local producers and communicating this to visitors, as well as making positive steps to contribute to their local economy.
Bed and Breakfast, Guest House and Inn of the Year
This category is open to all guesthouses and bed & breakfast establishments including farmhouses.
The judges are looking for evidence that nominated businesses have an excellent record of delivering high standards of customer care, evidence of training and staff development. The business must also demonstrate commitment to accommodation quality and improvement along with evidence of creative and effective marketing.
Tourism Experience / Sporting Activity of the Year
This award is open for tourism businesses such as activity or sport providers that don’t fit into any other category and which can demonstrate that they have gone the extra mile to deliver an outstanding and innovative customer experience
CAFÉ/TEAROOM/TAKEAWAY OF THE YEAR
This award is open to cafés/tearooms and take away establishments that provide great service and serve excellent food from local/regional or international suppliers. Businesses must be committed to sourcing the best / most relevant produce and communicating this to visitors. This award is open to any establishment in South Devon which appeals to visitors as well as locals.
Excellence in Customer Service Award
This award will be made to a company, individual or team that demonstrates a commitment to continuously improving its standards of customer service. The judges will expect to see a clear, well-implemented customer care policy and examples of service exceeding customer expectations within Tourism & hospitality. They will also wish to hear how customer care initiatives contribute to the overall success of the business
Spa and Wellbeing Experience of the year
Spa and Wellbeing businesses that can demonstrate that they have gone the extra mile to deliver an outstanding and innovative experience e.g. spas, health retreats, etc. whether standalone or part of another business. An accommodation provider or visitor attraction may enter for this award so long as the application relates to the spa and wellbeing experience.
Tourism Event /Festival of the Year
This awards festival or special event that can demonstrate it has grown in visitor numbers provides an outstanding experience to visitors and contributes to the local community.
Dog Friendly Business of the year
In South Devon we like to extend a warm welcome to all our visitors, including our four-legged friends. This award will be made to the company that demonstrates commitment to providing a relaxed environment for dog owners & their pets. The judges will expect to see examples of a dog friendly environment from accessible water to friendly staff that greet pet owners and their dogs naturally and with ease. This category is open to any company that welcomes all dogs not just service dogs.
International Visitor Experience of the year – NEW CATEGORY FOR 2017
All sectors of the tourism industry can apply if they can demonstrate that they have gone the extra mile to deliver an outstanding experience for international visitors e.g. visitor attractions, accommodation, business/convention centres, language schools or activity providers. The category is intended for businesses that are targeting international visitors as a substantive proportion of their overall business – probably in excess of 10% - and targeting growth in this. More importantly, it is for businesses that are offering international visitors an outstanding experience through the provision of new and innovative visitor experiences and packages, well trained staff and suitable facilities.
