City College is celebrating a ‘golden year’ after winning many accolades.
The College scored highly in the 2017 FE Week college league tables. Rated sixth in the country overall, Plymouth’s premier provider of professional and technical education came first in the rankings for employer satisfaction and second for student satisfaction. The College also came sixth nationally for the percentage of adults progressing into employment.
City College supports the region’s employers with their award-winning Apprenticeship provision, as well as providing a range of courses and bespoke training programmes which enable employees to upskill or retrain to better support their business’ requirements. This is evident as the College was named as the highest performing general further education college in the country for employer satisfaction in the 2016/17 FE Choices Employer Satisfaction Survey, with a 99.5% positive rating.
The College was also awarded the Teaching Excellence Framework Gold award for its university-level provision – the only institution in Plymouth to be awarded Gold in the 2017 awards.
The ‘golds’ continued with the College being awarded Gold in the Website Development category at the College Marketing Network’s FE First Awards in November 2017.
The College’s PL1 Restaurant has once again been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor for outstanding customer reviews and was given a five-star ranking by the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS).
In October 2017, City College unveiled the £13m Regional Centre of Excellence for STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). Shortlisted for Best New Building at the Abercrombie Awards, the state-of-the-art facility is equipped with high-tech resources to support a broader and more relevant STEM curriculum. Developed with the input of over 200 employers, the Centre gives City College students the opportunity to work together across traditional subject boundaries, giving them the transferable skills to gain the edge in a competitive job market. The project was funded by the Heart of the South West Local Enterprise Partnership, Plymouth City Council and the Regional Growth Fund.
City College also recently celebrated former student and Managing Director of Princess Yachts, Chris Gates, being awarded an Association of Colleges’ Gold Award. He received the awards for his continued support of education, working with the College to promote a variety of routes and opportunities for people across the City.
